Celebrating What Unites Us – For over 40 years, WIC has helped young families in Washington State by providing healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other critical services.  Join us to celebrate and build on the success of WIC. In addition, we will be celebrating the 30 year anniversary of Nutrition First (originated as the Washington Association of Local WIC Agencies in 1987)!

Embracing our Strengths –  WIC services are more important now than ever! While at the conference we will learn about the many ways we can build on our strengths to support families so they can thrive.

Sharing our Kindness – As we welcome families into WIC, we have the ability to improve health outcomes and ensure children have a successful start in school. During the conference we will learn new ways to share and show our kindness to clients, ourselves, and our co-workers.

September 5 update: The Nutrition First block of rooms at the Doubletree SeaTac is sold-out. We have a block of rooms available at the LaQuinta Inn, just across the street! (2824 S 188th St.)  To reserve, call 206-241-5211 and reference Nutrition First. The LaQuinta offers an airport shuttle, and free parking.  You may still be able to reserve a room at the DoubleTree by calling reservations directly, through their website, or an on-line travel website.  The room would not be part of the Nutrition First block, and would be at a different rate.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to help make the 2017 Nutrition First WIC Conference and Tradeshow a success!  Nutrition First is using SignUp.com to manage the volunteer shifts and assignments for this conference. We are looking for individuals to serve as: registration help, information table help, raffle ticket sales, photographers, trade show assistants, and room monitors.

Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

Volunteering is a great way to give back and network while getting a behind-the-scenes look at the conference.

Raffle Baskets!

Raffle tickets will be for sale Tuesday through Wednesday morning break. Tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5. Raffle baskets have been generously donated by WIC clinics from around our state. The proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Nutrition First Scholarship Program. Look for more information in 2018 about Nutrition First Scholarship Opportunities to attend National WIC Conferences and Local Educational Opportunities. Thank you for your support.

Child Friendly Policy

Nutrition First is a child-friendly organization, and children are welcome to attend conference meetings. However, if your baby or child is crying, fussy or disruptive during the meeting, we respectfully request that you kindly please leave the room. We encourage attendees to  work with their supervisors to determine what will work best on a case by case basis regarding bringing children to the conference.

 Celebration of Cultural Diversity

Would you be interested in wearing a cultural dress of your choice representing your own culture or who you work with or serve? This would only be for the first hour of the first day when we announce the opening of the conference. Please contact Aliya if you would like to participate (with a note on what you plan to wear/ or a culture you plan to represent) aliyah@ichs.com

 

Parking at the Doubletree

For Overnight Hotel Guests of the DoubleTree SeaTac:

When you check into your hotel room, the hotel staff will give you a validated parking ticket, and the parking charges will go to the Nutrition First account. Please verify that the parking charges are not on your room bill.

For Day Use Parking:

If you exit the hotel between 4:45pm-5:30 pm on Tuesday October 24 or Wednesday October 25, the parking gates will be held open to ease the flow of traffic and you will hand your ticket to an attendant. Please tell the attendant you are with Nutrition First.

If you exit the parking lot at any other time, please press the call button on the ticket kiosk at the gate, and tell the operator that you are with Nutrition First.

Dress is layers!

We each have a different comfort level for room temperature. Please dress in layers and consider bringing an extra scarf or wrap.

 

Dietary Restrictions

Breakfast – breakfasts will be continental style with a variety of choices to meet most dietary restrictions.

Mid-morning snacks– two generous Trade Show exhibitors are donating food for a light morning snack on Tuesday and Wednesday. They are not able accommodate all dietary restrictions. You are welcome to bring snacks with you, or purchase additional foods from the hotel coffee shop or gift shop.

Lunch – Lunches will be served plated. If you indicated a dietary restriction during the registration process, you will receive a card(s) with your name and the dietary information when you check in for the conference.  You will need to give this card to the server, or leave it at your place when the meal is being served.

If you have any questions, please talk with the registration/information table at the conference.

 

Conference Check-In

If you are arriving at the hotel on Monday, we encourage you to check in for the conference! Registration will be open from 4:00-8:00 pm, in the foyer near the Grand Ballroom.

When you check in, you do NOT need to sign in.

If you are counting conference attendance towards your continuing education credit requirements for RD’s or IBCLC’s:

Please sign-in on the CEU sheets at the information table at some point during the 2 day conference.

Monday – 4:00 – 8:00 pm

Tuesday – 7:00 am – 5:00 pm

Wednesday – 7:00 am – 5:00 pm

 

Conference Handouts

A link to conference handouts will be sent to those registered next week, and will be available until the end of November. Copies of handouts will not be provided on-site.
