Child nutrition programs play a key role in the health and educational readiness of Washington’s children. Child Nutrition Reauthorization in 2015 should build upon the effectiveness of current programs, address gaps in service, strengthen nutritional standards and improve access to nutrition assistance for low-income children. In order for these goals to be achieved, funding for nutrition programs must remain a priority of Congress; this is not the time to reduce funding that supports decreasing the opportunity gap for all of our children.
