This spring I had the good fortune of attending the National WIC Association Annual Education and Networking conference & exhibits in Little Rock, AR. It was an amazing 2 1/2 days of listening to and learning from quality speakers on nutrition and breastfeeding topics, and networking with my fellow WIC people from all over the nation. I had the opportunity to work as a conference volunteer, including being the monitor during a session.
A true highlight was the Closing Plenary Session. Jocelyn Elders, the former Surgeon General of the United States, was the speaker. It was delightful to hear her speak. She shared so much history from her childhood, as Surgeon General of Arkansas and of the United States.
Thank you to Nutrition first for providing a scholarship which helped with my conference and travel expenses. It was a very worthwhile experience for me. I am currently a Nutrition First Board member. It has truly been a rewarding experience, and I encourage other Nutrition First members to consider being a board member.
